Thailand has made global news headlines again today for the wrong reasons. Around 6,000 anti-coup protesters clashed with police in Bangkok and several people were injured.
Many people are looking to the forthcoming referendum on August 19th as the beginning of the end of Thailand's current period of uncertainty. Yet the outcome of that vote - to approve a draft referendum - is far from certain. I remember reading recently that the Government warned that only those fully versed in constitutional laws should give their opinions publicly, so I wonder what they are thinking about today's front page story in The Bangkok Post which quotes four high profile law lecturers have come out against the draft.
Hmm.. the number of 6,000 demonstrators is overestimated. I watched the news on Sunday night, let's say that it's just 1,000. And according to Channel News Asia, police estimated the crowd at 1,500 but organizers put the number at more than 5,000. So we do not know whom to believe finally. One more thing, an army TV station broadcasted a live report saying that everything was in control and demonstartors left the site already, but the truth was that the clash still went on..
