PEOPLE WATCHING

Having lunch earlier today in MBK, one of Bangkok's largest shopping centres, it was interesting to see the number of foreigners. Today was a public holiday which means a higher than usual number of Thai people would have been shopping.
My own rough calculations were that about one third of the people walking past the restaurant were non-Thai - and most appeared to be tourists.
It's certainly a good thing that tourists appear to be coming to Thailand is large numbers despite the events of the last year or so. I know the Tourism Authority has embarked on a major advertising campaign (the long ad on BBC World last weekend must have cost a fortune). Let's hope nothing happens in the coming months to undermine that returning confidence.
