Just a month ago I wrote about PC Magazine in Thailand. News emerged yesterday that the U.S. publisher Ziff Davies has opted to close the print edition, focusing on the internet and digital versions instead.
This raises an important question. What will happen to the local language editions of PC Magazine around the world, including here in Thailand, after the last print edition in January? The digital magazine business model isn't working here right now so it will not be financially viable for the Thai publishers to copy their U.S. publisher and move entirely online.
The answer is likely to be in the small print of the licensing contract, however it wouldn't be totally impossible for the Thai publishers to continue to publish a print edition after the U.S. title moves online.
