A LOVE FOR LICENSING

I write a lot about the business of magazine licensing as that's one aspect of my job. Basically, magazine licensing is where an established publishers allows its magazine brand to be licensed in another market. There are around 50 such examples of magazine licensing in Thailand.
This country still has opportunities but is probably considered quite developed in terms of magazine licensing. There are many other countries (Vietnam and Cambodia for example) where even the big global titles aren't yet licensed for local languages.
Magazine licensing is a growing business. In the last month alone U.K. publisher Haymarket has licensed Four Four Two in Brazil, Autocar in Kazakhstan and Stuff in India. BBC Magazine have also licensed Top Gear in Hong Kong and In the Night Garden in the Middle East.
It's an exciting business to be involved in.
