BBC: CREDIT AND FLACK FOR SAME STORY

The BBC got both credit and criticism this week for a story where “it” reported that Thailand is one of the top seven places to retire in the world.
Even the Public Relations Department of the Royal Thai Government got in on the act by crediting the Beeb with the story.
The criticism largely came from expat netizens in Thailand, who blasted the BBC for not knowing the “truth”, and blasting the reporter who wrote the story – suggesting he was probably sitting at a desk in London and failing to do proper research.
The truth is that this report didn’t come from the BBC at all, and they even mentioned the source which was an annual survey published by International Living, a website that helps people with information and insight when they look to retire and move to another country.
Sadly no one who followed up the story bothered to check the facts or the original source of the news which was clearly indicated in the BBC story. The fact it was picked up and reported by the BBC seemed to be good enough.
