PROBLEMS IN THE SOUTH

Yesterday, a total of 21 simultaneous explosions hit banks in the southern provinces of Thailand. These incidents were the latest in a long line of terrorist attacks in what is known here as the 'restive south'.
The insurgents behind these attacks are widely thought to be Muslim, and want a seperation from the rest of Buddhist Thailand. The culture and language of this part of the country is apparently quite different from the rest of the country.
The British Embassy in Bangkok advises against all but essential travel to and through these three southern provinces. It also says there is a risk of terrorist attacks in Bangkok, although to be honest where in the world isn't at the moment?
