Driving in Bangkok is not for the squeemish, and I personally think that being a taxi or bus driver in the capital is one of the worst jobs in the world. That said, I do have an admiration for anyone who chooses to get behind the wheel and spend half their day going absolutely nowhere.
In almost three months I guess I have taken close to 200 taxis, and I've never had the same taxi driver twice. (I've also taken about 30 tuk-tuk's and probably the same number of buses).
In that time I have only come across two women drivers. The first was a women taxi driver about a month ago, and her cab was noticably cleaner and more fragrant that the vast majority I have experienced. And just this morning I came across the first women bus driver, and her style was certainly more smooth and 'careful' that her male counterparts.
I doubt there are any published figures for the number of women taxi and bus drivers in Bangkok but, from my own experiences, I would guess it's less than one per cent.
