BANGKOK'S STATE OF EMERGENCY: PICTURES FROM THE STREETS
Bangkok is now under a State of Emergency.
I took these pictures in the area right outside Siam Paragon (under the Siam BTS interchange) around 3.30pm this afternoon as one group of "red shirts" who had taken control of two armored vehicles decided it was a good idea to immobilize them and park them at one of the city's busiest intersections.
The mood was light and almost carnival, and I'm guessing this group who probably numbered no more than a few hundred will have succeeded in attracting a large amount of publicity for their cause.
That said it's getting serious in Thailand now. Something has to give, and while I thought the Songkran holidays might have dampened (sorry, pun intended) spirits it might have the opposite effect.

Abhasit must arrest the red shirt leaders.... right after he does the same to the yellow team, then call for new elections.
Amnesty to Thaksin of course.
That would be a good start.
nationmultimedia.com's front page currently features the headline "The Nation on the Brink". It's probably true in both senses...
Mat.
Honestly, don't you read those releases from your embassy about staying away from large mobs? Sheesh! I hope you were wearing your "Press" badge!
I wonder if Abhisit is sorry he ever wanted to be Prime Minister?
Hi Andrew
this is getting a lot of coverage here today. BBC news is covering this on local radio as the British government is advising that people cancel travel plans and avoid the city. As usul I think this will be enough to scare all but the most intrepid travellers away. All bad for Bangkok.
