MARTHA STEWART MAGAZINE IN THAILAND

The International Federation of the Periodical Press (FIPP) is reporting that Post Publishing Public Company Limited will launch a licensed edition of Martha Stewart Living magazine later this year. Post Publishing is publisher of The Bangkok Post, as well as licensed local language editions of Elle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Cleo. The report says the new monthly magazine will have a circulation of 20,000 copies.
This is likely to one of just a few licensed magazine to launch in Thailand this year. It seems like a good fit for Post Publishing's current portfolio of titles, although I would question whether Martha Stewart is a big enough name in Thailand to justify what is likely to be a considerable royalty fee for publishing this title.

It should be interesting to see who will become the Thai Martha Stewart when the magazine hits the stand.

I read earlier this week that McDang is going to be publishing an English book for the American market about Thai cuisine.

The info we received from Post Publishing says that it will have a circulation of 80,000 (not 20,000)..

..not that these figures are reliable anyway!

Thanks for your comment Sir Sanuk.

I think there may only be one or two magazines in Thailand with that kind of print run, although there's no way to know for sure unless you either work for Post Publishing or their printing and distribution division.

Of course it could be the case they will flood the market with complimentary copies of the first few editions. That wouldn't be unusual, however the figure of 20,000 copies in this report came from the FIPP quoting Post Publishing's own statement.

It had not appeared on the shelves last weekend and I note they're currently advertising for marketing staff for this title, so I can only assume it will appear next month or later.
