DURIANS

I made a startling discovery yesterday - I actually like durians. For those who are not familiar with the so called 'King of Fruits', the durian has a reputation for being very, very smelly. The actual aroma has been described as sewage, stale socks or much worse. In some parts of south east Asia it is banned from public places like hotels, trains and the like.
Perhaps I was just lucky - but I didn't think my durian smelled of much at all really. It was cheap too - less than two quid for a whole, huge fruit - and the flesh is more like cold custard with a hints of wine and cheese. You'll have to try it for yourself to know what I mean.
Amazing fact for the day - the durian is not native to Thailand, but the Land of Smiles grows and exports more than any other country.

I am personally of the opinion that the taste for Durian is genetic: Some people love it, and some people hate it, and they can be eating from the same fruit...
