BANNED WORDS

I have started a list of words that will be banned in our publications. I think most publishing companies have them, mostly as part of a Style Guide. I have a Style Guide too but developing it is proving to be a nightmare. (More about that later).
My banned words at the moment are: OUTSTANDING, UNIQUE, LUXURIOUS, DELUXE and GORGEOUS. You'd be amazed just how much they were used by our reporters when writing about the latest property development or swish new restaurant.
From now on they will have to find other words, and I am sure in time those alternatives (if used too much) will also appear on the banned list.
