MIXED MESSAGES TO TOURISTS

It came as a suprise to read the both the Australian and New Zealand goverments are currently advising their citizens against all but essential travel to Thailand. This is very much in contrast to the British government's advice which is merely to exercise caution and avoid any large gatherings and military establishments.
Actually, there have been some angry complaints from some tourists who had expected to visit Bangkok and have their pictures taken with tanks and soldiers. I think they were Japanese, which explains a lot.
The tanks are pretty much gone from the streets but, up until yesterday at least, you could still see the occasional soldier here and there. I think they too will be withdrawn very soon with the swearing in of the new leader.
