RECRUITING

I've been in interviews today at the start of the process for recruting additional staff for the new magazine. We started by looking at the mountain of applicants that had applied for positions with the company in the past year - and from them we formed a short list.
I am quite keen to make the HR Manager the first person we recruit, as that person should be able to take a lot of the duties that I would otherwise need to be involved in.
Ever since I arrived here I have been amazed at what is blatant discrimination within job ads. 'Thai Female not over 25' is a common sight, yet I have deliberately included the words 'We do not select candidates by their age or sex, merely their ability to do the job' in all of our job ads.
And, my point has been proved already by the fact that the best candidate today was a 46-year-old guy with bags of experience and undoubted ability to do the job.
I must admit though, having to interview some HR people who are normally the ones doing the interviews was pretty daunting.
