CHINESE FOOD

There was a lot of food on offer at last weekend's Chinese New Year ceremony at Tanya's hotel. This picture, which hasn't been altered in any way, shows some red eggs which are apparently a traditional part of the New Year celebrations.
For those who are interested, I shot this on a slow shutter speed (1/15th sec I think) using some fill-in flash, whilst zooming at the same time. It took me about three shots to get something I was happy with. I think it just adds something to what would otherwise have been an ordinary image.

In Chinese culture, a baby ' s first month birthday calls for a celebration. The parents hand out red-dyed eggs , symbolizing happiness and the renewal of life.

In Chinese new year, the eggs prepared for guests may not be red-dyed. Boiled eggs are OK!

Clemente,
Thanks for your comment.I am not sure of the actual significance of these red eggs at the celebration I went to, but I guess it was more symbolic than anything else. Even so, it's interesting to know more about what they signify.
Andrew.
