TWO AIRPORTS

Bangkok now has two airports. Suvarnabhumi was opened in September of last year, replacing the 93-year-old Don Muaeng, but problems with cracking taxiways means that the old airport has been reopened to cater for some of the internal routes.
I don't think it matters too much how many airports there are - just look at London as an example with Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Luton and Stansted. The problem is that people flying from Chiang Mai, for example, in the northern part of Thailand and wanting to connect to an international flight will now need to transfer across Bangkok - which as you know is one of the most congested cities in the world. I am sure there will be shuttle buses and things like that, but bear in mind that neither airport is yet connected to a high-speed rail link into the city centre. It's going to be inconvenient for some passengers and will take some getting use to.
