YOUTUBE - THE LATEST
The Thailand/YouTube/censorship issue refuses to go away. The Bangkok Post is reporting today that the Thai Government intends to sue Google, the owners of YouTube, for their refusal to remove 'that' offending clip more than one month ago.
How can you equate what happened to a monetary figure? After all the Government was quick to block the site so the number of Thai people who saw the clip is probably very small. I would suspect that if this action goes ahead, Google might think about counter claiming for loss of advertising revenues as a result of the Government's action.
I personally still support the blocking of that video because it was very offensive to the Thai nation, although I do not agree with the entire site being blocked. It's easy and technically possible to restrict access to just one page without the need to stop people using the entire site. YouTube's refusal to remove the clip when first requested shows a blatant disregard and total lack of understanding for culture in this part of the world.
Just when you thought you'd heard the last of this issue it seems as though it will be around for some time to come.
