PEACE MAN, BUT NOT IN THAILAND

The Global Peace Index was released late last week, and Thailand was ranked surprisingly low. It managed 105th place from the 121 ranked countries, just one place above Zimbabwe.
Countries considered to be more peaceful that the Land of Smiles include Venezuela, Iran, Yemen and Indonesia. The most peaceful country in the world, according to this survey, is Norway, closely followed by New Zealand and Denmark. Iraq holds the distinction of being the least peaceful country in this survey. No surprises there.
I think there is a danger of reading to much into this, and other similar surveys. Thailand is predominantly peaceful and if you asked tourists most would probably laugh at the conclusion of this report. You have to question the purpose of surveys like that, and whether they are a real and true indication of everyday life?
