FOOD MILES

I am quite partial to a baked potato with cheese, and being the lazy guy I am I prefer to buy my cheese ready grated. I know it costs more but I haven't even got around to buying myself a grater yet.
Now and again I'll glance at food packaging to see where what I am eating has been produced, and the cheese I brought last week came from literally the other side of the world - Wisconsin in the United States.
I know the production costs are low but once you add on shipping, etc, I wonder how much money the producer can make from my purchase in central Bangkok? I guess I should also be concerned about the damage that my choice to buy an imported product will have done to the environment.
