DRAFT CHARTER IS BACKED BY MAJORITY

With an estimated turnout of just over 56 per cent, Thai people yesterday gave their backing to the draft charter with around 60 per cent voting 'yes'. Although official results will not be announced until later today it's clear that the Government has got the mandate it wanted, and that elections to restore democracy can proceed as scheduled for December of this year.
