HONESTY AND ETHICS IN JOURNALISM

The Lost Boy has written about his recent experience of writing a honest review and its repercussions. I don't think this is a uniquely Thailand issue because advertisers the world over do have certain influences over editorial. There are very few magazines or newspapers that would publish a bad review of one of their advertisers. Those that do have power but it's taken a long time for them to establish the integrity of their journalism.
Personally speaking, my staff and I work to a Code of Ethics and Standards to which we are publicly accountable. It's in English and Thai and there on our website for all to see. We've also turned down a lot of advertising because the advertisers wanted us to write something good about them in the magazine. This is almost unique in Thailand and I've yet to find any other publication that is so open about its editorial standards.
