THAI PAY GAP IS ONE OF WORLD'S LARGEST

A report from The Hays Group yesterday showed the pay gap between low and high paid workers in Thailand is second only to China. The survey looked at 12 million workers in more than 60 countries and Thailand's 10.7 ranking (top salaries are on average 10.7 times more than low ones) puts it second in the rankings for the second successive year.
The report correctly highlights one of the reasons as being the skills gap - something that Thailand suffers from in a big way and has been highlighted in other recent reports.
One question that arises from this report is whether the highest paid here are non-Thai? Some expats are here on huge salaries and if you compare those to the lowest paid Thai workers then sure, the gap is massive. If you take our own lowest paid employee and our highest then 10.7 is about right - but that's because our senior staff have skills and experience that very, very few Thai people possess.
