TURMOIL, CHAOS, ANARCHY

All emotive words and all words that are currently appearing in headlines around the world describing the current situation in Bangkok.
Just when it seemed the 'final battle' was losing momentum the anti-Government People's Alliance for Democracy upped the ante and effectively closed Bangkok's main airport Suvarnabhumi. All departing flights suspended since yesterday evening. Earlier in the day there were running clashes in previously unaffected areas of the city as protesters moved from their previous base at Government House to the new seat of power at the old Don Muang airport.
Prime Minister Somchai is due back from an APEC meeting in Peru later today and the Suvarnabhumi siege appears to be aimed at preventing him from returning. Various media reports say that up to 10,000 people have already been impacted by the 'temporary' suspension of departing flights, and that figure will soar today unless the airport reopens.
Events in Thailand have largely fallen off the radar as far as the mainstream world media has been concerned of late, but these recent developments are certain to bring more attention to the Kingdom. Many will be asking how can the world's 18th busiest airport be closed by civil unrest?
