WHAT'S THE TRUE COST OF DROPPING BBC?
A story in today's Bangkok Post says True Visions lost 9,000 premium subscribers during the first quarter. The equates to a more than 2 million baht in revenue per month.
The decision to drop BBC Entertainment from the schedule only came to light recently and those who canceled in protest at this decision will not be included in these figures.
One can only speculate how many more premium subscribers have canceled or downgraded their packages.

If they cancelled before news came to light that BBC Entertainment would be dropped from the Platinum package, then presumably viewers cancelled because of other factors, such as the cost in these economically depressed times...whether BBC was in the line-up or not probably had nothing to do with it. The 'true cost of dropping BBC'? I doubt it.
The story makes mention these 9,000 premium subscribers were likely lost because of the economic downturn.
The headline should be formed as a question - yes - because I am intending to question what the True cost actually is? I will amend accordingly now, and thank you for highlighting this.
We just cancelled our True Gold, mainly as a budget-tightening move. There's so much good stuff to be found online these days we couldn't see the point of paying the 1500 baht fee any more.
Last week, all my British friends had the Platinum Package. This week, they all have the Gold Package. Some are investigating alternative service providers. If TrueVisions' second quarter results fall off a cliff, then it's entirely their own fault.
... but of course if that happens it will be down to the economic situation and nothing to do with the absurd decision to drop BBC Entertainment and other channels and replace them with trash. :-)
I wonder how many questionable business decisions are being made because any fallout can be blamed not on the decision, but on the faltering economy?
I've just worked out how to access the BBC iPlayer from overseas and stream real BBC TV into my living room at full HD resolution. The same trick works for ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 too.
Tonight, I will be watching Dr Who followed by Top Gear and Have I Got News For You.
I'm tickled pink and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to TrueVisions for axing BBC Entertainment and forcing me do some research.
I'm a bit bemused as to why all the talk is about BBC Entertainment. We cancelled our entire subscription 1 year ago after being constantly frustrated by the poor value for money. Endless repeats, mind-numbing advertising, American shows that do the 2 steps forward 1 step back kind of shows (as in repeating what you just saw and then adding a little extra - assuming complete ignorance and a 20 second memory of its viewers). All this for over 50 quid a month - gotta be kidding. There's a satellite in Korat for 250 Baht per month with similar channels - 10% of the price of Premium. True are raking it in so we voted with our feet - which is hopefully what other subscribers will do. Can do without rather then pay to support a monopoly.
With hi speed Internet giving me all the media I can dream of I have cancelled my cable account
Hi speed Internet will continually kill cable operators
