A LACK OF THAI ENGLISH WRITERS
There appears to be a lack of (available) Thai English language writers in Bangkok.
I've been advertising a position at my magazine for more than a month now and I've not found anyone. I know at least three other English language magazines are also looking for Thai national journalists, so the problem doesn't appear to be unique to me. (Motivated, experienced media sales executives are always in demand as well).
If you're a Thai national looking for work as a journalist in Bangkok please email your resume to thailandjj@yahoo.com. Experience is useful but not essential as training, in some cases, will be provided. Obviously it's important to have the ability to communicate well in English too.

Well, you know how the law of supply and demand works: If it's rare, you have to pay more for it.
I don't think money is the issue right now, although you're right. Anyone with good English skills, no matter what sector they're working in, can expect to earn a premium of anything up to 40 per cent more than someone without those skills.
I once interviewed a journalist from The Bangkok Post who was earning 45,000 baht per month. That is more than the editors and publishers at some Thai language magazines.
I would also question the use of a "free" email account for professional business use.
Personally I would never email for any role advertised using either a yahoo, gmail or hotmail account as there is a high chance it is some form of phishing or scam advertisement.
Are there many vacancies in Thailand for experienced native English-language editors, writers or journalists? I am a published guidebook writer and editor of several magazines and newspapers in Europe, looking to relocate to Thailand.
Lance,
Opportunities for native English language media professionals are few and far between in Thailand. I started a website a while back to list the ones I heard about but now I just post links to ones I see on this website.
Sites likes jobsdb.com, and fccthai.com are good places to start your search, but I have to be honest and say that your chances of being recruited whilst still overseas are slim. But best of luck anyway .. and I'll keep updating this website with links to any jobs I hear about.
For some strange reasons, westerners are attracted to Thailand despite it's low 2 to 5 bahts per word rates. Nearby Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai, pays much more for published work.
