NOT SO 'FAST' FOOD

One of my most favourite eating establishments is McDonalds, and here in Thailand the only number that fans of that particular brand of fast food need to know is 1711. That is the phone number for McDonalds home delivery! Now I am certain that if McDonalds started to offer home delivery in the UK there would be uproar - not least because it would mean that getting your daily dose of calories (I have to be careful what I write, you can be guilty of defamation even on here) is made even easier. Yet this service, and similar ones from the likes of KFC and Pizza Hut, have been around for years and you really have to go along way to see a fat Thai person.
In the interests of professional journalism I had to sample this service, so last week Tanya and I decided called the number. After spending close to 15 minutes in the inevitable call centre queue (it was a Sunday night and pouring with rain) we then spent another five minutes waiting while the operator established that they could actually deliver to our area. (Another fact you should bear in mind is that at the end of our Soi (lane) across an admittedly busy road is, you've guessed, a brand of McDonalds). Anyway, having placed our order we were told that our food would be delivered in two hours !!! To be fair it did arrive after about 80 minutes.
Just another weird and wacky every day experience in Thailand.
