A PRESS CONFERENCE - THAI STYLE
This morning I was taken to my first press conference in Thailand by my CEO. It was an interesting experience - not least because it was conducted in both Thai and Japanese, neither of which I can understand. The event was the opening of a new internet securities trading joint-venture that is supported by our main holding company. It was weird because up until five minutes before the start there were no journalists or photographers at all - and then as it was about to start they all descended. I wonder if they had been waiting in the pub opposite?
I was there to be 'shown off' I think - as I have said before it's a big coup for my company to have a native English speaker on the staff, and I now have six more business cards to add to my ever-growing collection.
