THAI PRICES

Teresa asked about the price of the camera I brought last weekend - a Nikon D70s. The current price on the Jessops website in the UK is 500 pounds - and that's pretty much what I paid here. Generally speaking there are not any significant price differences between the UK and Thailand on cameras and lenses - although the more you spend the greater the potential saving. You certainly wouldn't save enough to pay for a flight over here.
Mobile phones are an example I often use when talking about things that are actually more expensive in Thailand. You can pick up new, cheap, basic phones in the UK for 20 or 30 pounds - wheras you will pay more than that here for the basic new models. There's also no such thing as a 'free phone with a contract' that you get in the UK.
One advantage with phones here is that you can choose your own number. In many shops there is a list of available numbers - you just choose which one you like. You do pay a bit more for the 'special' numbers and ones with signifncane in Thai, but on the whole you can get good, memorable numbers very cheaply.
