UK MENTATILITY HAS LONE GONE
I'm certainly thinking more like a Thai, in more ways than one. So far I have not fallen into the trap of saying 'krap' instead of thanks, but I am very conscious of the price differences in almost everything.
We went to Blackbushe Sunday Market this morning which is pretty much like Chatuchak but without the heat and humidity. Blackbushe is considered cheap to most people here in the UK but I was aware of how expensive everything seemed to be. Things that you can buy for a few quid in Thailand are the best part of ten quid here, and even more in the stores.
I can now understand why tourists, not just from Thailand, find the UK very expensive. For 95 per cent of my colleagues a trip here would be almost impossible, because even something like a standard hotel room for one or two nights is equivalent to one months wages.
It's also why many people from the UK find Thailand so cheap.
