ALMOST ONE IN THREE THAIS OWN CARS
Research issued late last week revealed that 14 million Thais over the over of 20 own cars - which is equivalent to 31 per cent of the population and puts the country fifth in the world in terms of the number of cars owned.
I find these figures staggering - especially when you consider the relative low wages and high costs of owning and running a car. I would suggest that three times that number own a motorcycle - because there are far more bikes on the roads than cars.
Anyway, it it gives me a good excuse to use this image which I tool last weekend at the Central World shopping complex in central Bangkok. The promotion featured many classic cabriolets and was extremely colourful.
