THE ASIAN CRASH 10 YEARS ON

There's a lot in the media right now about the 10th anniversary of the Asian Financial Crisis. It began right here in Thailand and the question often asked is could it happen again?
My personal view is that if anything was going to happen, in Thailand at least, then the events of the last year have provided more than enough reasons. Thailand is far more financially secure and stable than 10 years ago, but the spectre of those times is never far away.
Thailand is still seen as an attractive place for investment, due in part to low labour costs and a relatively skilled workforce, but the country must keep its competitive edge or else risk losing ground to emerging Asian countries like neighbouring Vietnam.
