CHAINSAW MASSACRE - NOT IN THAILAND

I found out yesterday that owning a chainsaw in Thailand without a license is illegal, and for a foreigner it could mean instant deportation.
Tanya's parents wanted help clearing some trees and, after spending far too much time hacking with a small cleaver-type, but still pretty effective, blade I thought it might be a good idea to invest in an electric chainsaw to make the task so much easier.
Tool hire shops just don't exist here, and a quick trip to Home Pro revealed the fact that buying one just isn't possible either. A quick look on the Internet then revealed the news that owing one is prohibited. I guess they are pretty lethal in the wrong hands, but to ban them?

Not sure, but possibly the control of chainsaws has more to do with forest preservation than preservation of life.

Pity the same sort of ban could not be imposed on guns.

I guess it comes down to someone, somwhere not trusting the average guy in the street with a potentially lethal piece of equipment. The same could be said for motorcycles though.

What hobby said. It is to do with the illegal clearing of forrests.
