OUTDATED LAWS

Did you know that large sections of what the media does in Thailand is governed by the 1941 Printing Act? That's right - a law which was introduced more than 65 years ago.
It gives Police the powers to halt the printing and distribution of newspapers and magazines that are deemed to "disturb peace and good morals". Publishers can also have their licenses revoked under this antiquarian legislation.
A new Press Bill might well be included in the Constitution which is being drafted at the moment, but it remains to be seen just how much influence the Government may wish to exert on the media.
