LAST OF THE BIG SPENDERS

I had the pleasure of entertaining the managing director of one of the UK's leading syndication companies this week. He was in Bangkok to talk to several publishing companies about the possibility of licensing some of the magazines that his company represents.
We had a very interesting and enlightening meeting, after which I took him to lunch at the food center next to our office. He said he wanted a real Thai experience and that's exactly what he got - complete with a frantic dash to avoid getting wet in a particularly heavy shower.
The cost of lunch for the two of us, including a bottle of Pepsi each, came to 80 baht. That's less than 1.50 in UK money. And we both really enjoyed it, probably more so than if we'd paid 20 quid for a meal at a restaurant or hotel.
