ONLY COURTS CAN BLOCK WEBSITES

The Thai Government announced yesterday it was revoking an order made at the time of last September's coup which gave the Information and Communication Technology minister the power to block websites. In future any such banning orders must be made through the courts.
This has to be a step in the right direction, although none of the reports I have seen so far say whether court orders will be required for those sites that are currently blocked. It should mean the end of the secret blacklist of banned sites, although this being Thailand I get the feeling that implementation might not be quick.
Despite promising last week that the ban on YouTube would be lifted swiftly, as of 8am this morning it's still legally unavailable in Bangkok.
