BUS PASSENGERS AT RISK?

I took this picture last week from a taxi. It's scary. Look at the huge split on the wall of this tyre. I assume the vehicle in question had a close encounter with something big at some time.
Even more worrying is this is the tyre of one of Bangkok's many public buses, and when I took this it was crowded with morning commuters.
You do hear about bus accidents in Thailand from time to time, and with things like this it's not difficult to understand how and why they happen.

I think the drivers are the biggest dangers. Especially those green Baht busses.
