CAR FREE DAY HAS NO IMPACT

Yesterday was 'Car Free Day' in Bangkok, although you wouldn't have known it. The Thai capital is famous around the world for its traffic problems, and this morning The Nation reports that 1,221 people took to their bikes for what essentially appeared to be nothing more than a publicity stunt.
The fact is that Bangkok does have its skytrain and subway, but its reach is limited compared to the size of the city. If Bangkok is serious about tackling traffic then why not ban all traffic from the city for one day and force people to use other means? It will cause chaos for sure but it will send the right message that alternatives need to be looked at more seriosuly.
