MY FIRST ELEPHANT

'Expect the unexpected' has been my motto since arriving in Thailand 18 months ago this week, and last Friday was no exception when I had the unexpected opportunity to meet two elephants outside our offices.
They were here to mark the opening of a new company in our building, but before their official duties I and some of my staff went down to say hello. This is Kotcharaj, which literally translated means elephant, and he is 21 years old. It's quite funny that his mahoot (handler) is busy talking on his mobile phone.
There are a couple of elephants that walk past our offices most days but I've yet to get close enough to touch them. This was the first time I'd got close to these awesome animals and it was an amazing experience.

In your next encounter, be sure to cross beneath its tummy i.e. from left to right. This affords those who succeed with best luck.

Thanks Kev, I had heard that and was half expecting it to happen at the opening ceremony for this new company. Instead the elephants just held the ceremonial ribbon whilst the executives cut it.
