THAIS SPEND LEAST ON CHRISTMAS

A survey published by GE Money yesterday found that Thais (along with the Japanese) spend the least on Christmas throughout seven Asian countries surveyed. According to the report just 20% of Thais said they would be purchasing presents to celebrate the festive season.
Talk about stating the obvious! Thailand is a 96% Buddhist country so the vast majority of people here don't understand the religious connotations of this time of the year. It would be like asking people in the UK whether they would be celebrating Songkran - the Thai New Year.
The main points of the survey were published in The Bangkok Post, but one thing they didn't print was the fact that 37% of Thais - the highest proportion in the countries surveyed - would want their Christmas stocking from Santa to contain cold hard cash.
