ECONOMIST: NOT IN THAILAND THIS WEEK
The Christmas and New Year issue of The Economist (pictured right) will not be appearing in Thailand this week (or next, given it's a double edition).
To say it has been banned is not correct because on previous occasions the Singapore-based publisher simply declined to send copies to the Kingdom.
This non-appearance of a leading global publication comes very soon after the decision by the Thai printers of the International New York Times to print white space in place of articles they deemed to be suitable according to current Thai laws.
Back to The Economist, and it will not take too much searching to discover the article that would be deemed to be the problem. As of Saturday night it is still available on the magazine's website. I can personally see why this edition has not made it to Thailand, regardless of the reasons behind it.
Just to add, the article noted: "Khaosod English, the open-minded website that chose to break the story, quickly took down the post. Other Thai media will not touch it."
