NEWSWEEK: WHY IT DOESN"T SELL HERE
Just short of three years ago global news magazine Newsweek announced it would cease printing and move entirely online. Two years later it changed its mind and print was back - largely I expect as a result of demand from advertisers.
What's interesting though is that Newsweek does not include Thailand within its disribution.
You can get global copies of Newsweek on newsstands in neighbouring Malaysia, as well as Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong - but not in Thailand.
My opinion on this is that Newsweek does not consider Thailand a big enough market to distribute here. Selling just a few hundred copies per week would not be worth its while - and I don't think it has the potential to sell significantly more than that.
Another reason is that Newsweek is not afraid to speaks its mind, and online it has certainly matched other titles in terms of content that would not be deemed appropriate for Thailand.
There are a decent number of English language news magazines that make it (mostly) to Thailand, and I for one would like to see Newsweek join the shelves again.
