ALL SMILES IN THE LAND OF SMILES

Immigration at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport has a reputation for being slow and a little unfriendly, but my experience last weekend was the exact opposite.
There was just one person ahead of me in the queue to have my passport stamped, a far cry from anything up to 20 weary travellers that I have been greeted with in the past.
And the smile I got from the young female immigration officer was really nice. She even complemented me on the neat way I had filled in my arrivals form. Hang on a minute ... was I in the wrong place? There were reports last year that immigration staff were being sent on courses to learn how to create a better impression for arriving passengers. I wonder if my experience last weekend was a result of that?

I hope this lasts! They've been slow and surly for too long.
