AIRPORT ORCHIDS

If you've been to Thailand then you've probably come across the boxes of orchids for sale after you pass through passport control at Suvarnabhumi Airport. They range in price from 500 baht upwards, and until my last trip I was skeptical about how long they might last. Sure, you can buy the same number of stems for about a tenth of the cost at any flower market here but the airport offerings are nicely packaged and convenient.
My trip back to Berkshire was seven weeks ago now and my Mum told me that one stem is still hanging on. Until last week there were more but now there's this one solitary Thai orchid left. That's not bad going really, especially when Tesco in the UK only guarantees its flowers for 14 days.
