CHEAPER CAMERAS IN THAILAND?
A lot of people want to know whether electronics and cameras are cheaper in Bangkok and Thailand in general. Up until recently my answer has always been "there's little difference" but in now seems Thailand does offfer some significantly cheaper prices.
I'll give you one example. The Nikon D40x with 18-55mm lens can be obtained in several places in Bangkok for a little over 20,000 baht. With some serious haggling you could get it down to 20,000 baht for cash. That's approx. 313 UK pounds using today's exchange rates. Compare that to the 414 pounds that Amazon is currently selling the same bundle for. Jessops is offering the body only for 391.95.
The drawbacks to buying a camera here are that you will only get a Thailand warranty, you need an electrical adaptor (just 1 pound) to use the Thai plug in the UK, and obviously you may be liable to customs charges on your return to the UK. If you can put up with those negatives then you can save enough to make buying cameras in Thailand a serious saving.
