WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF THAILAND?

This is for my overseas readers. What images or impression do you get when you think 'Thailand'?
In my position I get to talk to lots of people outside of Thailand and always ask them how they view Thailand. The views I get are interesting. From the investment community there are still worries about the economic stability of the country but others have different views.
What three words or phrases would you use to summarize your impression of Thailand?

Hi Andrew

well I guess much of my opinion comes from reading your blog so maybe you only have yourself to blame! Here goes

"somewhat corrupt"

"exotic and erotic"

"scary"

I guess it feels so foreign to me - the things you write about ar every alien to our culture in so many ways. I am full of admiration for the way you have adapted and settled in.

Teresa,

Erotic? Really? That's the first time my blog has been described like that. ;-)

I agree with everything you say and thanks for the compliment too.

Andrew.

Hey Hoops .. great blog by the way! I always knew you were a good writer.

Don't you think "urban squalor" is a bit harsh? Sure, Bangkok especially can be a bit depressing in places but I wouldn't say it's squalor

'What comes to mind when you think of the Thai media': Can we have this question as well, please? Maybe in a separate post.

English-language newspapers, perhaps, though you could run different categories. I am sure a few readers would like to sound off about the deplorable state of Thai 'public TV, even if they can't understand all of it.
