TAXI FARE INCREASE: NOT JUST YET

It's been five days since taxi operators were given permission to raise their fares in Bangkok. The flagfall fare remains at 35 baht (52p) for the first two kilometers but there is a 50 satang increase per kilometre. However a "technical glitch" means that software intended to automate the update process will not be finished until later this week.
The increase is the first for 18 years and equates to 12 per cent. For me it will mean about an additional 100 baht in taxi fares per week which is not much at all.

I think taxi fares last went up in 1996.
