MAGAZINE SALES FIGURES: WHO DO YOU BELIEVE?

I've written a guest column for Absolutely Bangkok about magazine (and newspaper) sales figures, and why almost all of the print media in Thailand exaggerates sales figures. I hope you'll check it out.

Does your magazine have its circulation audited independently?

Thanks for your comment.

Right now we are going through the process, with the assistance of BPA, of ensuring all the necessary systems are in place for an audit. This includes working with our distribution company and sales outlets, and for all of these people it's something totally new.

We had hoped to have our first BPA audit this year but it's going to be next year now before everything is finalised and BPA are satisfied they can carry out the necessary work.

Even now we're being honest with everyone about our sales. If we claimed, for example, sales of 80,000 copies per month but the audit reveals sales of only 10,000 our advertisers would be asking some very serious questions.

So, the simple answer to your question is no, but we're working towards making it happen very soon.
