MY CHRISTMAS IN BANGKOK
It was a pretty uneventful Christmas Day. Being a Buddhist country Thailand doesn't have Christmas Day as a formal holiday although many of the expats here do opt to take time off.
I was in the office and the 'highlight' was dealing with some cultural sensitivity issues relating to a photo shoot we have going on in the south of Thailand I was acting as mediator between the resort management and my CEO and the people on the ground. It worked out fine.
I'm also deeply buried in another project that will come to fruition in March. All I can say at the moment is that it revolves around publishing and business. It's yet another exciting challenger that I'm really looking forward to.

i wonder why you would like to launch a business magazine in such troubled times ? i notice that most magazines carry less and less advertising. Btw i spotted a copy of Director magazine recently. seems a nice business publication but they must be struggling for ad revenue. is there enough space for another business magazine ?
Hi Alexander.
Thanks for your comment.Firstly, I like Director although there's nothing of real substance in there. It's the only English language business magazine from Thailand so that's its niche, but it seems to be turning into a business version of something like Tatler and the like; Lots of pretty pictures but no real substance.
The thing is Alexander, in there troubled times people crave information, so if you are able to provide it and it's unique and valuable then it will sell. Advertising is tough for sure but we've just had the best two months ever in terms of revenue (for our existing business monthly magazine).
I believe there is lots of space for magazines in Thailand, either licensed local language editions of established overseas ones, or locally produced ones that don't have any perceived competition.
My Xmas was also uneventful -- and very cold. Anyway, happy Xmas and all.
Thanks for your explanation. What business magazines do you publish? Other then the 2 newspapers and Director magazine i find it hard to get a good insight in Thailand's business community. Best wishes for 2009.
Alexander. It's a Thai language licensed monthly edition of BusinessWeek.
I think, like you, there is a gap in the market for a Thailand-focused serious monthly business magazine in English. Director is too PR driven (in my opinion) whereas the two newspapers will never be able to dig deep into any stories.
It will not be a big seller but it would do well so long as expectations from the publisher weren't too high.
Sounds interesting and i look forward to see the first copy! Best of luck.
