WHILE STOCKS LAST ..
Seeing these three words associated with a magazine subscription sales campaign always make me laugh. And I've seen two in the last couple of weeks.
"Hurry, subscribe now while stocks last .."
As if the publisher is going to turn away cash from a potential subscriber saying "I'm sorry, we're run out."
Think about it.

The way traditional media, in particular newspaper and magazine publishing, have been operating in the last decade they deserve to go out of business. In an age of digital publishing, hi-tech logistics and distribution channels, how can a magazine say "while stocks last"? Do they think customers are really that stupid?
Similarly, why are prices so high for magazines? The Economist is 250 baht in Thailand, whereas here in Vietnam it is sold for a realistic 100,000 dong (146 baht) - lower than the "printed cover price". I wouldn't buy an imported magazine in Thailand because they are so expensive - far easier to get a free pdf copy online.
This is why iTunes has been so successful. Apple realized that customers are prepared to pay for music, books and magazine subscriptions (via newsstand) but you have to make it simple, convenient and cost effective to obtain.
