THAI LANGUAGE

The Thai language, certainly as far as the written word is concerned, is unlike anything else in the world. When it comes to translating, sometimes there is no single Thai word that means the same as one English word. That's why Thai stories tend to be longer than English translations. There's also little in the way of punctuation. The structure of sentences is different from English too, so quite often an English translation will need editing to make it read well to a native speaker.
Speaking Thai requires an understanding of tones. For example, the word 'mai' means not, wood, silk, burn and new depending on the tone used to pronounce it. That's the end of your Thai language lesson for today.
