TIME TRAVEL

When I make the move to Thailand I will be travelling 543 years into the future.
No, I haven't gone mad - the Thai calendar is different in that the start point is the birth of Lord Buddha which was 543 years before Jesus Christ. The year in Thailand is now 2549.
The Thai New Year is called Somgkran and is in April, but having said that January 1st is also now a public holiday, in recognition of the increasing Western influence in the country.
